IT is the UK’s fastest growing jobs sector. Formalise your IT skills.

Planning a future in the UK is something that many people do. To have a better chance of securing a job, it can help to see what skills are in high demand. Right now, the IT sector is the fastest growing jobs segment in the UK. This is good news for those of you with strong skills in that area.

According to online employment site Indeed, in the year to April 2019, job adverts for IT engineers grew more than any other role. Separately, the Recruiting Times also said that IT and Technology-related roles were in demand from businesses in 2018 and 2019. That was partly because of the rise in cyber-crime, it said.

If you have experience or are qualified in some form of skilled IT area, or are planning to take a new course focussed on the sector, then chances are your skills and experience will be in demand when you arrive in the UK. Of course, you don’t secure a job on qualifications or experience alone, but it’s a big help.

What IT skills can help secure a job?

First of all, it’s important to understand that just because you have a good background in IT, if you can’t prove that with a qualification or confirmed work experience, your skills might not be helpful. However, if you do have certified qualifications and experience, then that’s a great start for your job search.

The Indeed survey highlights that IT engineers are in high demand. That means if you have proven experience in this sector and can speak English, you should plenty of job roles to apply for. The more options you have, the better your chances of getting a job that will support your new life in the UK.

However, it’s not just IT engineers that are popular. Other IT-related roles that are in demand include:

  • Developers
  • Fintech related IT roles
  • Digital advertising and marketing
  • IT helpdesk staff

If you have some form of proven experience or qualifications for any of these and other IT-related jobs, then your job search should be easier than people moving to the UK without strong IT skills.
